The Treasures of Oz project is a resource for those who live and recreate in Ozaukee County in order to foster awareness of their natural surroundings and to engage them in a meaningful and sustainable way. Our long term goal is to provide a vehicle for continued partnership, growth and collaboration for environmental stewardship in Ozaukee County.
The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is a 30-mile paved trail that spans the entire length of Ozaukee County south into Milwaukee and extending north into Sheboygan county. The majority of the Trail is off-road and perfect for family enjoyment. From Harrington Beach State Park, the trailhead can be found as you head west into Belgium on County Highway D. About a mile west on County D (Main Street) you will see the kiosk by the Trak Side tavern across from Lakeside Canning factory just east of the railroad tracks.
OWLT crews treated the invasive phragmites patch on Harrington Beach State Park beach last year. It came about because of a grant they had from the Southeast Wisconsin invasive species consortium to eradicate this along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Check out their website and all the initiatives they accomplish on behalf of our land.
