March 2013 Newsletter Update
Today I had the opportunity to meet with a couple of great volunteers at Harrington Beach State Park. The planning for upcoming events was so much fun and their enthusiasm only helped me get more excited about the coming summer season.
Annual Meeting: The annual meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Sign in and dinner at 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting at 7 p.m. Come enjoy a dinner and visit with others who truly love the park. We will update you on the cabin project, vote for board members and share volunteer opportunities with all in attendance. Please contact Nancy Hise at or 920-915-1595 to let us know if you will be attending.
Annual Volunteer Day: Saturday, April 27, 2013 This year we will be planting trees and posting new trail signs. We will be working from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Come for all or part of the day. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Please call Ranger Andrew Krueger at the park office at 262-285-3015 if you plan to work so he will have an accurate count for lunch.
Pancake Breakfast: The annual breakfast in the park will be held on Sunday June 2, 2013. This is also Open House day at the park so a park sticker will not be required to enter the park. Come enjoy pancakes, sausage, apple sauce, coffee and milk. This event is a fundraiser for the accessible cabin.
Treasures of Oz: This year the Quarry at Harrington Beach State Park will be one of the featured stops for the Treasures of Oz event. This will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013. You will NOT need a state park sticker to enter the park on this day.
Summer Events: It is official, Robin Miller will be administering a Monarch Butterfly project in August. She has also planned many great programs throughout the summer. We also have a group who will be starting a Purple Martin project in the park. Watch for the house to go up.
Camping: The camping season is just 1 month away. If you have never been there, you need to check our campground out. Are you looking for a great place to stay with family and friends? Check out the Group campsite. As in the past, firewood and ice will be available for sale at the Park Office.
Concession Stand: The concession stand will be opening Memorial Day weekend. I would like to thank Bob and Karen Helminiak for managing the concession stand these last 3 years. Your service has been so appreciated. I would like to welcome Tara Kos as the new manager. I am looking forward to working with her and our volunteer concessionaires this year.
Adolph and Marie Ansay Welcome Center: Do you have a graduating senior, upcoming wedding or planning a family reunion? The Welcome Center may be just what you need. It is available for rent on a daily basis. Call the park office at 262-285-3015 to check its available dates and/or to reserve the building.
The board and I are looking forward to seeing many of you at the annual meeting on Thursday, April 25, 2013.
Rhondella Morgan, President
