September 2014 Newsletter

Today while driving I noticed the beautiful colors of the leaves changing.  Besides the Autumn colors, we have the cooler temperatures to enjoy the hiking trails and even some picnics in the park before the winter snows begin.  Before I can take my hike, it is time I share what is happening at Harrington Beach.

Accessible Cabin:  Construction started about a month ago and it is starting to take shape.  There should be big changes starting the week of September 28 when Matt Manczek Construction helps us get the outside shell up.  The Friends of Harrington Beach State Park goal is to have it framed in and ready for interior work before the snow flies.  If you are interested in helping with this project, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Halloween Hike:  This year’s Halloween Hike will be Saturday, October 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  As in the past, there will be a Costume contest along with pumpkin carving competition.  The Friends of Harrington Beach will have pumpkins and carving tools available for you to use and they are FREE!  If you have your own set of tools you prefer, be sure to bring them with you.  The Friends even clean up the mess!  In the Welcome Center we will have Chili and Hot Dogs for sale.  Of course there will be free hot chocolate, hot apple cider, hot coffee, bars and cookies to eat.

Volunteer Opportunities:  Opportunities abound at Harrington Beach State Park and with such a variety to choose from, there should be one just for you.  Here is a list of just a few for your review.  Check it out and email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Friends of Harrington Beach State Park board of directors meet the 4th Thursday of the month.  Our next scheduled meeting is Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7:00 in the Adolph and Marie Ansay Welcome Center.  The meeting is open to the public.  I hope you can join us!
