Driving home from Fond du Lac I noticed the beautiful colors of the leaves starting to appear and the fields filled with orange pumpkins. I thought the perfect way to spend this day would be a slow walk in the woods with a cup of hot apple cider and then returning home to a hot bowl of chili. Well, we will talk about that later so let’s see what is happening now.
Friends: We so appreciate each and every member of the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. They each have a special place in making peoples experience at Harrington Beach a special place. It is so hard when we lose one of our members as they are family to us. It is with great sadness I must share Ron Fromm passed away on September 28. One of Ron’s greatest loves was geocaching and he spent considerable amount of time providing geocache opportunities at Harrington Beach State Park. He and his wife, Geri, also volunteered selling concessions this past summer. Ron will be greatly missed. We also extend our sympathy to Ronnie Morgan on the recent loss of her mother. Friends members can quickly become like family as we work and play together in the good times and difficulties of life.
Camping: Camp Hosts play a vital role in our campground. They camp in the park one month at a time, doing routine maintenance at the sites and visiting with the campers. We wish to thank Dick and Sally Warnke, our September hosts and welcome Don and Vonni Dunn, our October hosts.
Firewood and Ice Sales: For your convenience, firewood and ice is for sale in the park at the Park Office. The best part of purchasing your firewood and ice from us is all are used by the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park for park improvements.
Adolph and Marie Ansay Welcome Center: The Welcome Center may be just what you need for a family gathering or party. It is available for rent on a daily basis. Call the park office at 262-285-3015 to check its available dates and/or to reserve the building.
Cabin Update: Our cabin committee continues to work on the final plans and authorizations to start construction. They are also working on collecting donations to help fund this project. If you would like to make a tax deductible gift, you can mail checks to Friends of Harrington Beach State Park, 531 County Highway D, Belgium, WI 53004. Be sure to write cabin on the memo line. You can also make an online donation at www.friendsofharrington.org. The donation button is under the thermometer.
Halloween Hike: The Halloween Hike will be held October 19 from 6-9 p.m. The Holy Cross 4H will once more be there with a Haunted Trail. There will also be a quiet trail around the quarry. The party continues at the Adolph and Marie Ansay Welcome Center. To make this more fun for you, we will be having a costume contest. Be sure to pick out your best! The Friends will also have pumpkins available for carving. Judging of the costumes and pumpkins will be divided by age of the participants and prizes will be given! Oh yes, hot apple cider and chili was mentioned before. At this event we will have free hot apple cider, hot chocolate, coffee, bars and cookies. We will also be selling hot dogs and bowls of homemade chili along with potatoes baked by the fire. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our next board meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on October 24 in the Welcome Center. We hope to see you there!
