I am sitting in my home on this early March morning listening to the birds outside. So much noise and a sure sign the winter is coming to an end and spring will soon be here. How exciting to have a state park filled with so much beauty this close to my home. I think I will write this recap of our February meeting quickly as a nice walk in the park is on my mind!
Annual Meeting: The annual meeting will be held on April 25, 2013. Sign in and dinner at 6:30 p.m.with the business meeting at 7 p.m. What is on the agenda? We will be updating you on the cabin project, giving you the opportunity to volunteer for activities that are of interest to you and voting for board members. I think the last item is most important. Our board is made up of people with a desire to do what is best for Harrington Beach State Park and its visitors. Are you one of those people? Please leave your name and number at (262) 285-3015 so we can get together and discuss your desire.
Annual Volunteer Day: I don’t think there is anything more fun that working together with others on something you truly care about. A work day from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday April 27 is planned to plant new hiking trail signs and trees among other property improvement projects. A lunch will be provided to volunteers. Please call Ranger Andrew Krueger at the park office at 262-285-3015 if you plan to work so he will have an accurate count for lunch.
Pancake Breakfast: The annual breakfast in the park will be held on Sunday June 2, 2013. This is also Open House day at the park so a park sticker will not be required to enter the park. Come enjoy pancakes, sausage, apple sauce, coffee and milk. This event is a fundraiser for the accessible cabin.
Treasures of Oz: This year the Quarry at Harrington Beach State Park will be one of the selected stops for the Treasures of Oz event. This will be on June 15, 2013. This will be a day you can enter the park without a state park sticker.
Summer Events: Keep an eye out for this section. Robin Miller has been working on making plans for our summer interpretive programs. I am looking forward to seeing and sharing the schedule with you! I will give you a hint, a request was made to the board for a Monarch Butterfly program. My thought is you will soon hear more!
Financial Update: We currently have $78,539 on deposit. Of this, $56,420 is reserved for the cabin project. With the $20,000 grant we have $76,420 for the construction project and should soon hear back on our request for another $20,000 grant.
Our next scheduled board meeting is March 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Adolph and Marie Ansay Welcome Center. Our meetings are open so we hope to see you there!
