Camping season is here as we open the camp ground TODAY! You will notice hundreds of blue tubes supporting our newest trees. When you spend time at your site, water the new trees. They are burr oak trees which could also be a learning moment for you and your family as you gather facts about these trees. What a fun family together-time.
When you take a walk, visit the beach or circle the campgrounds, take a sack with you and pick up trash. We don't provide trash containers throughout the park as part of a carry-in, carry-out policy in our state parks. Unfortunately, trash can build up on our beaches and trails. Another activity that benefits everyone.
Are you part of or do you lead a civic organization that is looking for a summer project? The Friends are looking for someone with organizational and networking abilities to volunteer to manage our concessions. Concessions is open on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Contact us through our email, or leave a message for us at the park office (262) 285-3015.
Free admittance weekend for Wisconsin State Parks is coming up June 2 & 3. A free fishing clinic will be held on Saturday. Sunday, June 3rd is our annual free pancake breakfast in the park from 8am until noon. For these events and more, check this website and our Facebook page often. Summer programs for visitors is in the works!
See you in the park! And have a safe and fun summer!
The Friends want to let you know about OTN's Spring Conference on April 5, 2018. Please go to their website link to find out more information. OTN
Walking at Harrington can be a challenge this time of year. We've had a lot of rain but the temps are still cold enough not to completely melt the snow. That equals slush! If you take it slow and watch your step, you can hear the waves crashing with a slushy sound off the beach. The chickadees and nuthatches will come to the bird seed in your hand. Keep your eyes open for flashes of red as the cardinals are in the bird mix too. They like sunflower seeds.
And you can smell spring close on the heels of this wintry mix. Harrington Beach is fine for all senses any time of the year. Slushy late winter is no exception.
The regularly scheduled board meeting for this Thursday, February 22 is cancelled. The next meeting open to the public is March 22.
Bring your umbrella and a friend and enjoy the park!
